Saturday, September 5, the SS Class Association held their annual SS sailboat race for the DudleyTrophy. The race was hosted by the Westhampton Yacht Squadron, while the actual race course was setup in Moriches Bay. There was only a field of 3 boats attended with experienced skippers and crew, from both Moriches and Shinnecock, all racing for the prize. The weather was challenging for sailboats, with temperatures in the mid 70's, plenty of sunshine, but very light winds (to almost calm). The Race Committee organized a series of four separate races, all around a triangle course in Moriches Bay. When the races were finished, the boats returned to the WYS dock. Because of Covid-19 restrictions, the skippers and crew met at the end of the dock and exchanged race results. Since the scores were so close, and there were only 3 boats, prizes were given to all the racers..
Abby Connett and Ian Connett from the Shinnecock Yacht Club tied for first place with Rob Dudley and Jim Ewing. Third place went to Robert Hadden who sailed solo that day.
